"Her Rights Were Violated"

SUMMARY:

Kerra Cameron, 34, knew she had a condition of passing out from panic attacks. While shopping at a local Target, she collasped, alarming several shoppers who called paramedics. Her fiance, tried to explain everything would be fine and she just needed a few minutes to recover, but the paramedics ignored him. He even called her mother on his cell phone to have her explain that everything was all right. Against her cries of protest, they rushed her to the hospital and would not allow her to see a doctor until she had a CAT scan and an EKG. In total, she accumulated $1,470 of medical bills from an incident that could have been avoided if the paramedics had listened to her several pleas not to take her to the hospital.

The article gives me the message that we should disregard our health ( if the incident isn't severe) to avoid large medical bills. I have to say that I don't agree with the article. Collapsing could be a sign of many illnesses. It may have been that she was dizzy or it may have been the failure of a major organ. I believe that we shouldn't take chances.

I don't think it's fair that they forced her to go to the hospital when she didn't feel that she needed to. Then she was given medical bills after she didn't even want to go to the hospital in the fist place! I don't think that the hospital should be allowed to take someone against their will.

If I were her, I would definitely sue the paramedics. Legally, no one is supposed to be forced to receive medical care. She could have a really strong case with this incident. Especially if her fiance protested as well. I'm sure there was a reason, what if she had a history of this and it was a minor issue that she was already aware of? This incident definitely angers me.
